Dates for further Pacific Plan Review consultations announced

18 March 2013

Dates for the Pacific Plan Review team’s country consultations in Niue, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Nauru, Kiribati, Republic of Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and Fiji have been published today on the Pacific Plan Review website.

Officials in each of these countries have been contacted and requested to coordinate a schedule of meetings for the Review team.

“The team has asked to consult with the political leadership of each country, including the leadership of opposition groups” said Rt. Hon. Sir Mekere Morauta, KCMG, who is Chairing the Review.

“But we are also interested in meeting with senior officials responsible for advising on and implementing the government’s policy on regional cooperation and integration, representatives of civil society and the private sector, academics, development partners, and key regional organisations headquartered in each country”.

The team is expected to meet with key agencies in the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP) during their consultation travels, including the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency in Solomon Islands, and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in New Caledonia.

In line with the Review’s Terms of Reference, the team is scheduled to present their interim findings from the consultations during meetings in Suva in late May.
