[Yap State News Brief] Yap Election Commissioner Transmits Election Result

The Yap State National Election Commissioner has transmitted the results of Yap Election to the National Election Director for compilation with results from ballot boxes from Pohnpei, Guam and Honolulu before the National Election Director certifies the result.

The Ballot Boxes from Honolulu, Guam and Pohnpei could not reach Yap in time due to the decreased number of flights per week. Therefore, the National Election Office has earlier made arrangement for those boxes to be flown to Pohnpei where they will be counted.

In his transmittal letter, Mr. John Chugen informed the National Election Director that the Central and Local Counting and Tabulating Committees have submitted to him the final and unofficial results of the Congress General Election which was held on March 05, 2013 to elect the Two-Year Term Seat in the FSM Congress.

He also mentioned that as the National Election Commissioner, he is convinced that the Election Boards, Central and Local Counting and Tabulating Committees have carried out their task according to all provisions of Title 9 of the FSM Code, Emergency Rules and Regulations and other relative procedures.

And finally, the National Election Commissioner certified to the National Election Director, the following candidate as the winner in Yap State.

FSM Congress Two-Year Term:  Isaac V. Figir

The Overall Turn Out is as follow;

Total Registered & Eligible Voters in Yap State…………9,207

Total Votes Cast for Yap State…………………………………..2,655

Percentage of Voters turn out……………………………………28%

The number of votes cast in this election will increase as the ballot boxes from Pohnpei, Guam and Honolulu have yet to be counted.

Results from those ballot boxes will be received from the PIO Office after they are complete with the counting.
